Savinelli is more than just pipes. Sure we make a damn good pipe, but we have also mastered the cigar. See what we have to offer in the Liga Especial II, Nicaragua Reserve, ELR, and the Special Selection 2005.
My method is pretty simple I think. I just toast the foot with my Xikar Executive single flame lighter if the cigar's ring gauge is "small" (less than 50) or my Colibri Enterprise triple flame if it's a larger ring gauge until the cigar is evenly lit and then start puffing away. As far as my favorite lighter goes I have to say it is the Executive, the thing is indestructible. My friends call it the Road Warrior. (Having trouble posting)
Sorry Jon it's Xikar Enigma for me toast and puff. Although that lighter in the picture is cool it has a twin wick flame what model is it I see a birthday Present for ME 5/26 you still have my address LOL..
I'll normally use a single flame torch for smaller RG's and a double or triple flame torch for fatter sticks. Got a deal from an online lighter retailer and picked up all three torches for under $20. They certainly aren't Xikar's, but all three work very well. Heck, if two of them turned out to be duds I think I still got value out of the purchase.
I always use my triple torch lighter from Vector (perdomo branded). It's a HUGE table light but I carry it around in my pocket anyways. Sometimes it has trouble lighting and I have to bleed it but it works for the most part. I always toast the foot a bit first and then start lighting. Extra crispy recipe. :)
I use 2 large kitchen matches to light my cigars. I toast the foot with the first, and light the cigar with the second. I be sure to let the end of the match burn off before using it. I don't won't to taint the cigar. I have a single flame Vector torch lighter that use for touch ups.
I prefer a single flame torch for all ring gauges. I'll patiently light the outside edge of the circumference of the cigar so it burns evenly toward the center. If there is no wind, I find a soft flame is time-efficient and gentle while providing an even light. I always use my butane Ronson lighter for touch-ups.
I usually toast the edge of the foot, all the way around, and then toast the foot itself as the previous poster (Zach) mentioned. At that point, I hold the foot to the flame and puff away.
The best way to light a cigar is probably a soft flame. With a torch lighter (which can be more convenient in a windy atmosphere) one can easily burn the wrapper and affect how evenly it burns, necessitating more touch-up.
An old Zippo is the best (my favorite) way to light a cigar...the last cigar I smoked a couple hours ago was a Liga Especial. Great cigar.
Using my Colibri Extreme lighter, I toast the foot while rolling the cigar slowly through my fingers, give the foot a gentle blow, and sit back and relax! Oh...and sip my Woodford Reserve Bourbon.
I use a triple torch lighter since I'm always outdoors when enjoying a cigar. The wind precludes using wooden matches or (usually) a single torch lighter.
I'm all about toasting the foot of my cigar with a torch lighter, though for a very long time I was in to using a soft flame lighter. There's something about torch lighters that has always made me a bit wary - I've always worried about heating up the tobacco a bit too hot. That can cause taste problems (mainly experience from pipe smoking).
My lighter right now is a Xikar pipe lighter w/the attached pipe tools :)

ReplyDeleteI have trouble on here too sometimes. But, I can't complain when the service is free!
ReplyDeleteXikar again...Man, they really should start paying me for this advertising!
I simply toast the foot of the cigar and then light it.
ReplyDeleteFavorite lighters: if I'm at home then it is my Lotus triple flame table lighter. On the road, Xikar Eris or Zippo with a Z-Plus in it.
I usually prefer a torch because most of my smoking is outside and with any bit of wind a soft flame is just a pain to use.

ReplyDeletei use my 1937 reproduction zippo, or the always faithful match, after the sulfer buns off of course
ReplyDeleteI use my Ronson Jetlite and toast the foot real good without the flame touching. Once the foot is glowing its ready to smoke. =)

Old-school; Long, wooden matches
