Which Champion Are You?

Immediately upon opening the beautiful, understated wood-grain box in which Savinelli's new 'Dos Campeones' line of cigars are packaged one is faced with a daunting decision: "Which Champion Are You?"

The 'Dos Campeones' line boldly takes us into uncharted territories as every box contains two unique varieties of these complex sticks; both the 'Coraje' - Latin for 'Courage', and the 'Sixto' - named for being the sixth blend by creator Steven Ysidron. The Coraje is a dark and robust smoke; to describe it as 'strong' would not be doing it justice - this baby is going to be claiming some Man Cards this year. The Sixto, on the other hand, is beautifully complimentary, a slightly more mellow smoke though equally as complex as its brother Coraje.

Cigar Aficionado's "Cigar Insider" has both of these blends rated very highly, with the Sixto taking top honors rated at a stellar 92.  Don't miss out on these fantastic sticks as I can't imagine they'll stick around long and, as always, stay lit, friends!

Heard it Through the Pipe Tamper 5-3-2011

On this edition of the Pipe Tamper...

We learn more about the Dos Campeones line.

With Savinelli's innovative new cigar line, Dos Campeones, launching in less than 30 days, I would like to explain the story behind the sticks.

In each box of Dos Campeones will be two different blends. The 'Sixto' and 'Coraje.' Steven Ysidron, CEO of Savinelli, worked on the blends for the Dos Campeones. When he could not decide which blend to move forward with, he decided to use both. When asked to comment on this decision he said, ''We have been in the cigar game for almost 20 years. I have tasted a lot of tobaccos, a lot of blends. I came up with something real special with the Dos Campeones, and couldn't decide which blend could carry the name. I think both blends really embody what Savinelli can bring to the table. I am excited to launch such an innovative line."

Coraje is Latin for 'Courage.' This is a strong blend cigar and is not for the weak hearted smoker. Only the strong, the brave, the courageous will attempt to smoke this cigar.

Sixto is Latin for 'Sixth.' This cigar is the sixth blend that Steven Ysidron has worked on. He believes that in each blend he has learned how to make the next better. He promises that this blend has been his best work so far.

Look for the Dos Campeones in a store near you coming in June.

Heard it Through the Pipe Tamper 3-3-2011

On this edition of The Pipe Tamper...

We go back in time with Savinelli.

With the recent news of the RyR Series being discontinued, it got me thinking about other cigar lines to come and go within Savinelli.

In 1997, just three years after the release of the still popular ELR series, Savinelli launched the Oro 750 line.

The Oro 750, out of the Dominican, was a medium strength stick with an Indonesian grown dark Sumatra wrapper and a Dominican binder and filler. The Oro 750 received a rating of 90 by CA in Oct. 97.

Another 'gone but not forgotten' line from Savinelli is the Fuerte

This cigar, out of Tobacos Puros, was sweet with a hint of coffee and wood. In July, '04 it received a rating of 89 by CA.

Before the Special Selection 2005 (which we know will also be joining this list later in 2011) Savinelli launched the Special Selection 2004.

The SS2004 had brawny and leathery flavors with licorice and spice. We are excited about the Special Selection 2006 due out later in 2011.

Finally we come to the Liga Especial, which was recently replaced with the Liga Especial II.

This cigar had a nutty, toasty aroma. A cedary finish with leather and light spice flavors. It received a rating of 91 by CA in Oct. '04.

The RyR Series is in good company of retired Savinelli Cigars.

This year, along with the RyR, we will also be retiring the Special Selection 2005(being replaced by the Special Selection 2006) and the Nicaragua Reserve(Being replaced by the Nicaragua Reserve 2007).

We are proud of the cigars that helped build Savinelli. We are excited about the cigars we current offer and of course, the cigars in the works at Savinelli for 2011.

On this edition of The Pipe Tamper...

We take a look at the year in events for Savinelli.

Savinelli will be attending many events in 2011. Along with many events in retail shops across America, Savinelli will be in Las Vegas, Chicago, and Cabo.

This week in Las Vegas, the TPE will be held on Wednesday and Thursday. Steven Ysidron will be attending on behalf of Savinelli.

Steven will also be attending the TAA in Cabo San Lucas in late March on behalf of Savinelli.

In May, Steven will be attending the Chicagoland Interntaional Pipe & Tobacciana Show with two of our Savinelli Beijing store managers.

Finally, most of the Savinelli company along with the Italian headquarter President will be attending the IPCPR Convention in Las Vegas in mid-July.

Savinelli is excited for these opportunities to gain exposure and grow in our industry. We look forward to seeing you at some of these events!

On this edition of The Pipe Tamper...

We take an inside look at what is to come in 2011 from Savinelli Cigars.

I am proud to announce that Savinelli will be launching 5 new lines of cigars in 2011.

Along with the already mentioned '20th Anniversary Edition' out of Tabacalera Oliva, we will be launching the Dos Campeones(Two Champions)' and 3 other great lines. These new lines will be produced in Tabacalera Oliva, Tabacalera Fuente, Tabacalera Placencia, and R y R in Esteli.

Steven Ysidron, the Director of US Operations and CEO spent 2 weeks recently in Nicaragua and the Dominican. He spent time with his cousin, Fuente, in the tobacco fields and in the tobacco factories. During his visit he put the finishing touches on the new blends so they could be put into production.

We are greatly anticipating these new cigar launches. Stay tuned for more.

We say goodbye to the RyR series Y Cigar by Savinelli.

The Rico y Raro (Rich & Rare) cigar was produced by R & R Esteli in Nicaragua and released in 2009.

This medium to full bodied cigar delivered both flavor and strength in one smoke. It received a rating of 90 by CA.

Hand-rolled with 100% aged Nicaraguan grown Cuban seed tobaccos, it was full of oak and cedar flavors that would leave you with a syrupy finish.

Get yours hands on one of these sticks before it is too late!

The Savinelli ELR (Extremely Limited Reserve)

In 1994 Savinelli introduced the Savinelli 'Extremely Limited Reserve' (ELR) cigar line made by the masters at Tabacalera A. Fuente. The ELR has been scored at 91 by Cigar Aficionado Magazine and has remained a consistent excellent cigar.

Ok, now that I got the 'formallity' out of the way. I can tell you that this cigar is bad ass! It is available in Maduro or Natural.

The Natural is available in Churchill, Corona Extra, Lonsdale, Double Corona, Extraordinaire, Robusto and Belicoso while the Maduro is available in Churchhill, Double Corona, and Robusto sizes.

It is a mild bodied cigar with spicy flavors throughout backed by nutty and coffee notes. A truly effortless cigar to enjoy!
